Job Summary:

The Pediatric Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients under 19 years old in a Level 1 pediatric trauma and burn center. This role involves managing urgent and emergent pediatric cases in a fast-paced environment, including general care, critical care, urgent care, and trauma bay settings. The RN is expected to deliver family-centered care, perform patient assessments, administer medications, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. A minimum of 2 years pediatric ED experience and required certifications are essential.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to pediatric patients in emergency, trauma, and burn care settings.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and family members to ensure comprehensive care.
• Manage care in various unit areas including general care beds, critical care beds, urgent care beds, and trauma bay.
• Respond to emergencies and provide acute critical care as needed.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as required by unit needs.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience, including at least 2 years in Pediatric Emergency Department.
• BLS (American Heart Association) certification.
• PALS (American Heart Association) certification.
• ACLS (American Heart Association) certification.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Burn care experience.
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
• ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses) certification.
• ABLS (Advanced Burn Life Support) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, complex pediatric trauma and burn center environment.
• Required to participate in rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• On-call, weekend, holiday, callback, and charge nurse responsibilities as per unit requirements.
• Strong preference for candidates able to work approximately 48 hours per week.

Scheduling:

• Rotating shifts including day, evening, and night.
• Shift assignments based on unit needs with weekend and holiday coverage required.
• Shift schedule includes on-call and callback duties.
