Job Description

Job Summary:

The Level 2 Registered Nurse (RN) in the Orthopedic/Trauma unit provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing orthopedic trauma, spinal surgery, and elective orthopedic procedures. The role involves working in a fast-paced, level 1 trauma facility environment, requiring excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care, including telemetry monitoring and emergency response.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide skilled nursing care to orthopedic trauma and spinal surgery patients.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring and interpret cardiac rhythms.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide critical care as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Participate in unit-based education and professional development activities.
  • Support unit needs including floating, weekends, holidays, on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as required.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably in orthopedic or trauma care.
  • Telemetry experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from American Heart Association.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience working in a Level 1 trauma facility.
  • Experience with orthopedic trauma and spinal surgery patients.
Special Considerations:
  • Must be able to work D/E/N rotating shifts.
  • Floating, weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback coverage required based on unit needs.
  • Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned.
Scheduling:
  • 36 or 48 hours per week.
  • Rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
  • Schedule includes weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
